Final Times - the title becomes obvious when you hear the piece, but are there darker overtones? It is a short piece of "cinema for the ears" based on some of the sounds of Glasgow - sounds which I collected and which, like most art or music, tell you something about the creator as well as the subject matter.
Other people would make a different selection of sounds, but these are the sound of the city which I carry around in my head. The city has a real buzz and I hope some of this comes across - people moving about - cars, buses, trains and particularly the Underground which you can't miss. There are voices too - local accents, and more unusual things like the rhythmic clicking of an escalator at Central Station.
Things get mixed together though, and the
juxtaposition and layering makes new meaning - the escalator sounds like the train crossing
rails, voices are stretched into the hum and squeal of the Underground train which returns
later from the sound of a distant busker, shimmering like heat haze.
